Xbox and Playstation 3 owners can now listen to their favorite music from Rdio and Soundcloud, given they also possess an Android mobile device: Qualcomm Atheros just released version 1.5 of its Skifta media shifting app for Android. Skifta lets you access and play local and Internet media on DLNA-certified devices. It is almost sort of Airplay for Android. Users can use their phone to browse the videos on their network-attached storage drive and then send the video to their PS3, Xbox360 or DLNA-compatible connected devices. The app also offers access to a few Internet media sources, including TED, ShoutCast and Facebook. Rdio and Soundcloud are two main latest content partners for Skifta, enhancing the value of the app because it allows a user to play content from the two services on devices that don’t offer any native apps for them. Currently you need to run Skifta through your phone or tablet device to use the services; but that may not be for much longer. Skifta launched an SDK for CE manufacturers earlier this month in the hopes of bringing the service to high-end routers. That means that Xbox owners may soon be able to pump their Rdio music straight from their router to the game console. Thursday Slacker Radio launched their 17th artist-hosted and curated station - the Graffiti6 Showcase. Slacker's 17 Artist Showcase stations are hand-programmed and hosted by the respective band or artist, sharing personal stories and exclusive commentary while highlighting their favorite music. The Graffiti6 Showcase joins a solid collection of free stations that can be found in the "Artist Showcase" category anywhere that Slacker Radio is available (mobile phones, the web and more). The Graffiti6 Showcase can also be heard at this direct link: http://www.Slacker.com/Graffiti6 This week Social TV startup Peel is at the Google I/O developers’ conference, showing off an upcoming Google TV integration called AllPlay TV. VP of Marketing Scott Ellis says it’s fulfilling “the vision that we’ve been aspiring to for a long time —live TV, DVR, and web-based content, multiple sources all brought together in the app experience.” So after AllPlayTV goes live, Peel users will not be limited to live TV anymore — you’ll also see content from Netflix and recorded on your DVR, with a little label indicating the source. Once you find a show that you like, you can select it on your phone and it will start playing via Google TV. You can rewind, fast forward, or adjust the volume using Peel. Or if it’s a program that hasn’t broadcast yet, you can use the app to record it via DVR. The company plans to update its Android app with AllPlayTV in July, with an iOS update coming later. Peel is looking to bring this functionality to other connected TV platforms. Tuesday Slacker Radio announced the launch of Lifestyle stations in partnership with ABC Radio. The new stations, Men’s Life and Women’s Life, offer Slacker listeners talk content targeted to the specific interests of men and women. For the first time, listeners will be able to create their own custom lifestyle stations featuring the topics that are most relevant to them. This unique content, available through ABC, comes from expert sources from outlets including Esquire, Car & Driver, SELF, The Knot, Consumer Reports, Us Weekly, Popular Mechanics, Allure, Complex Magazine and GQ. Lifestyle stations are now live under the "ABC" section on the Slacker's web site at http://www.Slacker.com, as well as on the latest versions of Slacker's smartphone apps, letting listeners tune in from virtually anywhere. This week SK Planet announced the launch of Revolution Tap, or R-Tap, a free iPhone and Android app that tests users' rhythm and speed with a fun and entertaining music-based game. R-Tap is suitable for all ages and skill levels. R-Tap stands out from other music-based game apps because of its incorporation of characters and courses that are based on the beats of popular songs. The app also enables players to buy and play songs in the app such as Ke$ha’s ‘Tik Tok’ or ‘With You’ by Chris Brown. The app provides users with two modes: the Rhythm Tap mode, with a familiar rhythm-based music game format and the Rhythm Run mode, that delivers an innovative spin on the game through the incorporation of 3D characters and music courses. Android users can download R-Tap from Google Play and iOS users can download it from the App Store. Slacker Radio, in partnership with ESPN Radio, launched a collection of ESPN stations on Monday dedicated to live streaming of ESPN shows and sporting events. This collection features six new stations including four regional stations (NY, LA, Chicago and Dallas) and a Spanish language ESPN station. All Slacker listeners can tune in to live sports broadcasts on the web and smartphones, including events such as the NBA Finals Games, the U.S. Open Golf tournament, Euro 2012 soccer matches, Wimbledon 2012, the NBA draft and the MLB All Star Game. Free listeners will have access to these stations for the next 30 days, while subscribers will be able to listen indefinitely. Today marks the last day for some of our hard working account assistants at 43PR. As graduation approaches, our part-time students/account assistants are now entering the "real world."
Regardless of these bittersweet times, there is no such thing as "goodbye" in the 43 offices. The experience and connections built here will last a lifetime and will be something to remember for our departing employees.
