There is big news from Slacker this week. AOL just announced that Slacker will power AOL's radio. As stated in the LA Times Blogs "AOL's Jeff Bronikowski and Geno Yoham has been working to deliver a better radio experience for their audience. Slacker is a superior service...this is their opportunity to shine in the spotlight". This collaboration will more than double Slacker's listeners. As a benefit, AOL radio listeners will have access to Slacker's 3 tiers ranging from free Basic Radio, to Radio Plus, all the way to full on demand with Slacker Premium. RadioInk reports that AOL will be playing fewer commercials for users who subscribe to Radio Plus or Premium Radio as one of the benefits. Slacker's premium features include listing to all the tracks users want to listen to, the ability to skip songs and save favorite songs or stations as mentioned by Fast Company. The arrangement between Slacker and AOL will not only increase Slacker's audience but also allow both companies to produce new advertising opportunities for mutual clients. Bizzy also had a big announcement this week. Bizzy's mobile app replaces out-dated methods of reviewing restaurants and the need to check online before going out to eat. Bizzy was designed for mobile and with purpose of being more social and easier for people to participate and interact with each other as mentioned in PC Magazine. Bizzy's mobile app, which allows users to rate and share places they go eat with people who follow them, has released new features. Now, users are able to follow friends and people with similar tastes, browse their Bizzy Feed to see where other users are going and their access their reviews. Bizzy also offers a "Try It" list that stores the places that users are interested in trying. There is also a feature that locates similar places around your "Try It" restaurant and from your other Bizzy recommendations. Mashable mentions that users who like different types of food and restaurants will not be recommended the wrong place. User reviews can now be shared on Facebook and Twitter so your friends and followers know your opinion on a restaurant as well as you can learn theirs. Huge news for Slacker this week, as a they introduced their on-demand music service to rave reviews. Time's Techland wrote "Watch out, MOG and Rdio; Slacker Radio is getting into the on-demand subscription music scene with its own $10 per month offering." While Engadget was equally impressed writing "Internet radio provider Slacker is bulldozing the thin line dividing itself from subscription-based music services today, with the launch of Premium Radio." The LA Times' Pop & Hiss and Gizmodo also wrote awesome reviews, which can be read here and here respectively. Additionally Slacker released a new native iPad app that received editors choice and 4.5/5 stars from PC Magazine. "Slacker Radio's iPad has been a long time coming, but the new, eye-catching, intuitive interface, deep customization options, caching, on-demand streaming, and the usual Slacker bells and whistles makes it a must-have for music fans." The Slacker (Slacker.com) team was out in full force at today's SF Music Tech in San Francisco at the Hotel Kabuki. Slacker CEO, Jim Cady, spoke on Discovery & Recommendation at 2 PM. We snapped an image of Slacker's Patrick Markel at the table showing attendees how the service works, as well as one of band, The Mowglis, playing a few tracks. The SF MusicTech Summit brings together visionaries in the music/technology space, along with the best and brightest developers, entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, journalists, musicians and organizations who work with them at the convergence of culture and commerce. We meet to discuss the evolving music/business/technology ecosystem in a proactive, conducive to dealmaking environment. Thanks to Brian and Cassie for putting together an awesome event. Slacker, the world's first Personal Radio company offering “Your Radio Everywhere,” is known for it's awesome pre-programmed genre stations (including everything from 90's grunge to comedy) and the ability to create your OWN stations based on artist, song or album. We thought we'd gather a few good tips on creating awesome custom stations so here you go: You can: start with a genre station you like and tweak it with your favorite bands via the web players "station page" and "edit station" option. You can also: start with any artist you like or can think of and then go to the "request music" tab and heart or ban a few artists that are listed in the related artists section. You can then add additional artists (by entering them in the search field also within the request music tab) that aren't already listed - this helps to create an even more eclectic mix. And be sure to try the: "fine tune" controls to adjust the levels of artist discovery as well as the type of tracks you want to hear: deep, fringe, hits and from what era: classic, older, recent, current in addition to how often you want to hear your faves! Finally: Ban and favorite tracks to your hearts content! Teach Slacker what you want. We promise it listens. If you're interested in getting some validation on how awesome Slacker's service is you can ready why Jeff Wilson at PC Magazine has given Slacker the magazine's Editor's Choice award receiving 4.5 out of 5 stars!
