Ariel SantosAriel is one of our talented Account Managers and is coming up on her one-year anniversary with 43PR this July! Currently, she manages and works with clients including PrivacyStar and Credit Sesame. In this interview, Ariel shares the highlights of her career and explains what invention is missing from today’s tech world. What do you like most about working at 43? I love working at 43 because of the warm and fun-loving atmosphere that we cultivate as a company. Everybody works very hard for their clients and our success as an agency really shines through everyone’s love of our company and each other. The employees here are truly phenomenal people with fantastic PR skills. Additionally, it’s a group of people who love to laugh and thoroughly enjoy a cold beer on a warm Santa Cruz day, and you just can’t beat that. What is favorite memory so far at 43? I’ve had a lot of great experiences with the 43 team in my time here – everything from CES in Las Vegas to sharing the joy that comes with securing a briefing with top tier media for a client. Although it’s not a memory that has officially been made yet, I have a feeling I’m going to love watching the World Cup with everyone here. We’re lucky enough to have an office full of soccer players and soccer fans so we’ll be enjoying the next month of games and I have a feeling we’ll make some great, new memories. What was one of the most memorable highlights of your career? I recently had to opportunity to go to CES and it was amazing to be a part of an event that really sets the tone for technology around the globe. The innovations showcased at CES have and will influence the lives of everyone and it’s exciting to be a part of an industry that is shaping the future and really setting the tone for our every day lives. It’s incredible to think about how much we are affected every day by the technology around us and it’s exciting to think about what’s to come. What do you enjoy most about working in PR? I enjoy working in PR because it’s an ever-changing environment that promises a fast-paced and challenging career. No day is the same when you work in PR and I appreciate the unpredictability of the profession. I’d say it’s the most “adventurous” office job you can have! What advice would you give to someone who is interested in PR?
A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that PR is all parties and events, which is definitely not the case. If you want to succeed in PR you better be a good writer and be able to think on your feet. A successful PR professional can adapt quickly, has a fantastic vocabulary and a great smile. So, those interested in PR should have a sharp mind, study a thesaurus and whiten their teeth - Hahahaha! If you can invent or improve any type of technology what would it be and why? This is easy. Teleportation. How amazing would it be if you could close your eyes and open them again in a different part of the world? No more 12-hour plane rides and goodbye to baggage fees! I’m not sure if this qualifies as technology, it feels more like magic. But hey, if you would have told me 20 years ago that there would be a tiny rectangle I could fit in my pocket that could literally tell or show me anything I wanted, I would have thought that’s magic too. If you were given a one week vacation next week where would you go and why? Brazil! The World Cup has just started and I would love to be there. I can’t even imagine the electricity in the air and the excitement in everyone’s hearts to be a part of such a thrilling worldwide event. Even if the World Cup wasn’t going on, I still think I’d love the opportunity to lay on Ipanema Beach soaking up the sun in Rio de Janeiro. What do you like to do when you are not in the office? If you haven’t noticed already, I’m a big soccer fan. I play regularly on 3 separate teams here in Santa Cruz and you can find me on the pitch 2-3 times a week. I’ve also recently started learning to surf (rather unsuccessfully so far) and I love spending time at the beach and in the sunshine. What is your favorite snack to eat in the office? String cheese – I just can’t get enough! And we always have string cheese stocked in the office refrigerator so I never go hungry.
